Phantom Blade Zero: Every Quickhand Zhang Treasure Location and Reward

Quickhand Zhang’s treasure hunt rewards careful backtracking and a few useful tools. Across five regions in Phantom Blade Zero, his jade chests are tucked behind locked gates, dangerous encounters and routes that are easy to pass on the main path. The rewards range from a poison throwing weapon to accessories and a powerful medicine.

There are 16 chests in total: three each in Crimson Forest, Village of Lu, Meigu Lake and Mirage Estate, plus four in Pangzhen. A couple have important access conditions. In particular, collect the Opera House chest during your first visit to Mirage Estate, and finish the Meigu Lake secret area to reach its final two treasures.

Crimson Forest: three chests and a poison weapon

Reward: Flying Dagger (Phantom Edge), a set of throwing knives that builds poison.

1. At the Outlaw Trap bell, turn around and enter the cave with the butcher and dogs. Take the Crimson Forest Tunnel Crank, then use it on the floor grate near the bell. Drop down, climb down the ladder and cross the wooden bridge. After defeating the second butcher and dogs, follow the left-hand path up the slope to the chest.
2. This chest sits just inside the locked Thieves Camp Dungeon gate. The key is in the cellar at Cliffside Lodge: progress through Crimson Forest to reach the lodge, go upstairs for the cellar crank, then open the cellar. Look down from the lower area for a corpse carrying the key. Return to Thieves Camp, unlock the gate and check immediately to your right.
3. From the Thieves Camp bell, take the exit toward Zhang’s Hideout. Follow the path down and around the cliff into a cave. Defeat the dogs and their master; the chest is on the left.

Village of Lu: look above and below the courtyards

Reward: Fine Thread, an accessory that raises the damage and Sha-Chi depletion of summoned objects by 50%.

1. From the Well of the Three Puppets bell, climb the stairs to the large house at the top. The mother puppet attacks at the entrance. Turn left, climb the ladder and open the door, then cross the puppet room. The chest is left of the altar at the end.
2. First unlock the Lady’s Grounds bell by defeating Master Bi Yuan of the Tianxuan Sect. Leave the courtyard to the right, climb the wall on your left and circle around to the upper level of the grounds to find the chest.
3. Leave the Survivors’ Courtyard bell area to the left and descend the stairs. Use the rope down the shaft on your right. The room below is crowded with puppet enemies, and the third chest is there.

Pangzhen: four chests, with two item checks

Reward: Goldblaze (Phantom Edge), which functions like a rifle.

1. The first chest requires the Tianxeng Pavillion Key. Start the Star Performer quest by speaking to the puppet in the Order’s underground tavern. From Huang Manor Crossroads, head west along the lantern-lined road and turn left at Tianxeng Pavillion. Unlock the entrance and clear the puppet enemies. Take the left staircase to the first floor, then follow the balcony around to a room at the back.
2. Bring the You Loong’s Deluge Phantom Edge, earned by defeating You Loong, Leader of the Blackwater Crew, in the pond near the Banyan Tree in far western Pangzheng. At the Marketplace bell, use Deluge on the nearby flaming barrier. Go inside, turn right and use the hunter sickle to reach the rooftops. The chest is on a platform ahead.
3. From Backstreet Archway bell, at the entrance to Pangzhen’s western section, defeat Wu Xuan, The Fallen General. Pass through the circular gate behind him and climb the stairs. In the garden full of puppet enemies, look inside the small house at the far end.
4. At Pond of Fading Song bell, just before the well where Gu Wanyue, The Wailing Wraith, waits, retrace the street toward the pool. Turn right up the stairs, pass through the archway and enter the building for the final chest.

Meigu Lake: the last two are in a secret area

Reward: Sha-Chi Blood Catalyst, which boosts Sha-Chi combo damage by 20% for 15 seconds and restores 20% HP, while setting you alight.

1. On the northern island, start at the Blackwater Crew Dock bell and cross the arena where you fought You Loong, The Frenzied Blackwater Crew Leader. Take the ramp on the right, then pass through the house immediately to your right toward the zipline. Ride it down, hop across the poles and turn right onto the sand. The chest is there.
2. For this chest, first open the area through the Secrets at the Heart of the Lake quest. In northwest Meigu Lake, find the snowy stretch and its sealed mirror. Defeat the four acolyte scarecrow bosses around Wulin to unseal it. One is in Crimson Manor, which requires repairing the Illusory Pipa. Once through the mirror, continue to the second bell and follow the cliffside coffins to a platform with the chest.
3. The final Meigu Lake chest is also in that secret area, along the main route through the ship section. Search the last ship before the shrine to the lady who teleports you; the chest is hard to miss.

Mirage Estate: don’t leave the Opera House chest behind

Reward: Thundermoon Lantern, an accessory that triggers lightning strikes on nearby enemies when you inflict Thunderstrike.

Mirage Estate comes late in the game, so its locations may reveal parts of the area. The Opera House chest is the one to plan around: collect it on your first run through the building. After the opera, the door appears to lock behind you, cutting off access.

1. From the Training Grounds bell, cross the arena where you fought Yuding and continue into the courtyard. Enter the house straight ahead, where the herald appears upstairs. Turn right just inside the entrance to find the chest in a side room.
2. At the Opera House bell, use the Opera Ticket to open the main gate. The chest is on the left side of the first room. Take it before watching the opera and exiting, as the gate appears to lock afterward.
3. After opening the secret passage in Leng Tu’s Study on the main route, reach the Perfect Vessel Estate bell. The chest is behind the large sculpture in the middle of the room.

Collecting all 16 chests completes Quickhand Zhang’s treasure quest. Keep the required keys and Phantom Edges in mind, and treat the Opera House visit as a one-time opportunity.
