Phantom Blade Zero Four Fierce Axes Quest: All Case File Locations

The Four Fierce Axes quest in Phantom Blade Zero stretches across several regions, and its final evidence isn’t available until you reach the Village of Lu. The reward makes the detour useful: deliver the complete set of case files to the Child of Insight in Pangzhen to earn the Blood Oath Dagger, which can Soul Temper the Dread Axe.

Collect the first six case files

The quest begins when you find a “Four Axes” case file in a house near the Broken Puppet Valley bell. You’ll also need to defeat Peng Meng, the Axemaster, at the outpost. He drops another file, and defeating him advances the investigation into the Four Axes Rebellion.

To gather the remaining evidence, search Weeping Creek Valley for these six locations. Map markers help guide you to the files:

1. In a house near the Broken Puppet Valley bell, on a table. This is the file that starts the quest.
2. In Broken Puppet Valley, on a corpse beside the shrine.
3. After the Rustblade Pavillion bell and before the Outpost Courtyard bell, on a table near the campfire where you learn to jump assassinate an enemy.
4. Near the Axemaster’s Holding Cell bell, on a table in the area where The Hunt has killed everyone.
5. In Sha-Chi Tower’s forge area, on a table on the lower level. First acquire the Hunter’s Chain Sickle, use it to retrieve the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Key from the tower’s top, then unlock the door near the Creek Valley Plains Entrance bell.
6. As a reward during the Festering Secret quest. After defeating Peng Meng, use the Dread Axe to break the barrier in the outpost. Defeat the enemies, speak with the captain, then deliver the letter to the lieutenant at the Long Pillar Overlook bell. He gives you the file.

Find the final file in the Village of Lu

The seventh case file requires further story progress. After the Crimson Forest, reach the Village of Lu and start the Leave None Alive quest. It sends you back to the outpost, where you can now pass the barrier and reach the last file.

Go through the area with the houses and enter the Lady’s Cave. Follow the route through the cave and back outside, then use the Hunter’s Sickles to reach the platform holding the file.

Take the evidence to the Child of Insight

Once you have all seven files, travel through the Village of Lu to Pangzhen, the game’s fourth region. Follow the map marker into town and reach the marked building near the Pavillion of Knowledge Crossroads bell. Defeat the Shadow Order guards, then fight through three floors of masked enemies to obtain the key to the roof.

Open the door on the top floor and speak with the Child of Insight outside. Ask him about the Axemaster to receive the Blood Oath Dagger. Once you unlock Soul Tempering with Myst at the Orders underground tavern, you can use the dagger to Soul Temper the Dread Axe.
